SmartRent, Inc. announced Climate Protection Mode — asset protection built into the Alloy SmartHome Hub+ and Alloy Fusion thermostats. The technology proactively defends against leading causes of property damage: water, mold, and moisture from extreme environmental conditions.
How it works
Unlike standard thermostat scheduling, the feature acts as a silent secondary fail-safe for emergencies. The system stays dormant until conditions become dangerous:
- temperature below 42°F (~5.5°C) or above 98°F (~37°C);
- humidity above 80%.
Then climate control automatically restores a safe baseline without overriding residents’ daily settings.
Why it matters
Multifamily insurance premiums have risen an average of 55% since 2021. Average burst-pipe repair costs are around $15,000, while high- and mid-rise communities often see $30,000–$50,000 in damages plus displacement losses.
Climate Protection Mode is proven at scale: 20 enterprise customers, 54 properties. A top-tier REIT reported 1,200+ activations and an estimated $6.7 million in prevented damages.
